As of September 2004, there were 55 drug courts either being planned or already operating in Oklahoma. Twenty drug courts had been in existence for over 2 years, 17 were recently implemented, and 18 were being planned.

During 2002, 34.2% of the Federally-sentenced defendants in Oklahoma were charged with drug offenses. Methamphetamine was involved in 33.3% of the drug offenses.

During 2003, there were 24,889 arrests for drug abuse violations in Oklahoma. There were 23,503 drug arrests during 2002. In 2001, there were 22,125 drug arrests in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics & Dangerous Drugs Control made 114 arrests during 2003. During 2003, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported making 231 arrests for drug violations in Oklahoma.

During 2001, there were 9,118 adult arrests and 1,425 juvenile arrests for marijuana possession. During 2002, there were 8,767 adult arrests and 1,282 juvenile arrests for marijuana possession.

Approximately 18.3% of the inmates on July 30, 2004 were incarcerated for distributing a controlled substance and 11.3% were incarcerated for possession/obtaining a controlled substance. Of the 1,063 inmates randomly drug tested in Oklahoma as of July 30, 2004, 26 (2.4%) tested positive for a substance. During 2003, 7,956 inmates were randomly selected for drug testing and 7,678 were actually drug tested. Of the total number tested, 179 (2.3%) were positive for one or more substances.
