As of March 24, 2005, there were 29 drug courts in existence or being planned in Minnesota. Four drug courts had been operating for more than 2 years, 9 were recently implemented, and 16 were being planned at that time.

During 2002, approximately 51.2% of the Federally-sentenced defendants in Minnesota had committed drug offenses. Approximately 43% of the drug cases involved methamphetamine.

During 2004, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported making 241 arrests for drug violations in Minnesota. During 2003, there were 12,065 arrests for drug possession and 5,860 arrests for drug sales in Minnesota, excluding data from St. Paul.

During 2002, the Minnesota Department of Corrections evaluated 2,646 male and 362 female inmates for substance use disorders. Over half (54%) of the inmates reported symptoms indicating dependence on at least one substance and an additional 20% reported indications of substance abuse. Approximately 17% of the inmates evaluated met the diagnostic criteria for marijuana dependence.

The purpose of the Minnesota Department of Health's Meth Lab Program is to share resources, raise awareness, protect endangered children, and provide training and equipment for first responders and other at-risk staff.
